Detectives Charge Suspect in Domestic-Related Homicide in Forestville

Homicide Unit detectives charged a suspect in connection with a domestic-related homicide inside of a Forestville home. The suspect is 44-year-old Willie Coleman Jr. of the 6400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in Forestville. The victim is 38-year-old Sonya Harris of Pennsylvania Avenue in Forestville. The victim and suspect had previously been in a relationship but still lived in the same apartment.

On December 30th, 2017, at 5:00 pm, patrol officers responded to the 6400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue for a welfare check. Once on scene, they discovered Harris in her bedroom unresponsive. She was pronounced dead on the scene and transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore. An autopsy revealed the cause of death was asphyxiation and the manner of death was homicide.

Coleman Jr. is charged with second degree murder and related charges. He’s being held at the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
