Suspect in Custody for July 4th Homicide in Landover

Thomas Tyrone Sanders

Homicide Unit detectives today arrested a suspect for a fatal shooting in Landover on Tuesday. The suspect is 24-year-old Thomas Tyrone Sanders of the 6500 block of Columbia Terrace in Landover.

On July 4th, at about 3:40 pm, the Prince George’s County Police Department was alerted to two shooting victims who were driven to a local hospital. One of the victims, 33-year-old Demarco Robinson of Lanham, was pronounced dead a short time later. The second victim’s injuries are not considered life-threatening. The investigation revealed the two victims had been shot inside of a car near a liquor store in the 7300 block of Landover Road.
In the early morning hours of July 6th, an alert patrol officer spotted a van that matched the suspect’s van. The van was being towed on St. Barnabas Road in Temple Hills. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the tow truck. While speaking to detectives, the tow truck driver confirmed the van was owned by his son, Thomas Sanders.

The preliminary investigation reveals the occupants of the suspect’s van got into a dispute with the occupants of the victims’ car right before the shootings.

Sanders is charged with first and second degree murder. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
