PGPD Investigates Fatal Collision in Seat Pleasant

The Prince George's County Police Department's Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal collision in Seat Pleasant. The victim is 88-year-old Alphonso Mitchell of Morocco Street in Capitol Heights.

On July 8, 2014, at about 10:25 am, patrol officers were called to the intersection of Central Avenue and Addison Road for the report of a crash involving a car and a tow truck. When they arrived, they found Mitchell suffering from critical injuries. He was pronounced dead at a hospital a short time later.

The preliminary investigation reveals Mitchell was heading eastbound on Central Avenue when he crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a tow truck. Investigators believe Mitchell may have had a medical emergency, causing him to lose control of his car. A passenger in the car was seriously hurt. The driver of the tow truck was not hurt. A passenger suffered minor injuries.
